...April DVDs
It's a good month to stay in and rent. Although I have not seen all of these, they at least look interesting.
April 4th:
Brokeback Mountain: Flash forward 5 years or so: “Crash? What was that about? I’m going to go out on a limb and predict they would not say that about this masterpiece.
Chronicles of Narnia - The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe: A fun, but ultimately empty film version of the beloved book series.
Crash – The Director’s Cut: In case we did not get the point of the movie when it was bashed against our heads the first few hundred times, Paul haggis want to add a couple hundred more ways to get it across.
April 11th:
Fun With Dick & Jane: This box office hit proved Jim Carrey can still bring in the numbers, but I’ll hold off for his more “Eternal Sunshine…” –type roles.
April 18th:
Mrs. Henderson Presents: I highly recommend this one. Yes, it is on the cutesy side, but the acting and writing is spot-on.
Hostel: I still love “Cabin Fever” although hindsight does seem to indicate that the best moments of the film were not necessarily due to Eli Roth’s writing and directing although the tone was perfect. I have been putting off this one as it has been presented as a “Saw” rip-off and seems to take itself too seriously. I hope I will be proved wrong upon viewing.
April 25th:
Match Point: I have heard nothing but wonderful things about this film. I missed it in the theater and cannot wait to visit it on DVD.
Shopgirl: Another acclaimed film I look forward to catching up with. I hope I can overlook the strange Claire Danes and Steve Martin pairing.
