...May Music
April Showers bring May…well…more showers here today. But, I do have as list of some hot (and not-so-hot) new releases!
May 2nd:
Jewel – Goodbye Alice In Wonderland: Kilch takes steps off of the dancefloor and climbs back on to the ‘ole barstool for a return to form. I find that Jewel’s songs usually grow on me over time and I hope the same goes for this.
Glen Phillips – Mr. Lemons: My favorite Toad is back. I haven’t had a chance to preview this one yet, but I hope it is a little more charged up than the last one.
Also of Note…
Pearl Jam – Pearl Jam
Tool – 10,000 Days
May 9th:
Gnarls Barkley – St. Elsewhere: This teaming of producer, Danger Mouse, (Gorillaz, Beatles Mashups) and rap/R&B artist, Cee-lo (other project titles too long to list) has already created a deserving hit single. I am here to confirm that the rest of the album may not completely live up to that song, but it is an inspired effort. However, I do look forward to their next album, “Hill Street Blues.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Stadium Arcadium: Kudos to RHCP for waiting this long to indulge themselves in the requisite double album. I hear disc one is full of radio-friendly jams while disc two is a bit more adventuresome.
Also of Note…
Neil Young – Living With War
Paul Simon – Surprise
May 16th:
The Raconteurs – Broken Boy Soldiers: Jack White grabs a couple of friends and some amps and creates a side band. I am not so sure I should be excited about that or not.
May 23rd:
Dixie Chicks – Taking The Long Way: Here is my most anticipated album of the year! The Chicks from Dix went ballsy with the first single, but, really, you couldn’t just pretend nothing had happened. Word on the streets is that country radio is (mostly) happy to embrace this album and are waiting for the follow-up single to start showing the love again.
Michael Bolton – Bolton Swings Sinatra: Isn’t this just too easy? Okay, just a short dumb one…someone please go turn Sinatra back over in his grave.
Also of Note…
The Ditty Bops – Moon Over The Freeway
Johnny Cash – Personal File
May 30th:
Peeping Tom – Peeping Tom: Mike Patton, of the “epic” Faith No More, has returned even though I did not realize he was away. However, I would like to share his contact list as he has brought Norah Jones, Massive Attack, and Bebel Gilberto with him!
